Privacy Policy

Effective · 16 August 2025

Grace Journal (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application and related services (“Services”).

1Information We Collect

only what we need ✦

We may collect the following types of information when you use Grace Journal:

1.1 Personal Information

1.2 User-Generated Content

1.3 Technical Information

We do not collect prayer entries, and we only collect other information when it is relevant to providing or improving our services.

2How We Use Your Information

for the app, not ads ✦

We use your information to:

3Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in the following limited cases:

never. ✦

4Storage & Security

your stuff stays yours ✦

4.1 Where your notes live

Notes, thankfulness entries, and prayer lists are stored either locally on your device or, if you choose to sign in, encrypted in your account on our servers. Local copies exist so the app works offline and gives you fast editing access.

4.2 Encryption & access

Data is protected in transit (when it moves between your device and our servers) and is stored on our servers encrypted at rest. We and our service providers only store encrypted representations of your notes on servers and do not have the ability to decrypt those server-side encrypted blobs.

We will not unencrypt, read, or export your notes from server storage. We also will not provide decrypted copies of your notes or prayer lists to third parties.

4.3 Backups & retention

Encrypted backups that may contain note data are retained for a limited period (up to 30 days) after deletion for disaster recovery and fraud prevention. During this retention window, deleted content is not available to other users and cannot be exported or accessed, and is only used for disaster recovery purposes.

After the retention window, we make commercially reasonable efforts to purge deleted data from backups and provider systems.

4.4 No export guarantee

We cannot and will not export thankfulness entries or prayer lists — neither we nor our service providers will provide those notes in plaintext or as an export file to third parties. If you want a local copy, you must create it on your device (for example by copying text into another app under your control).

4.5 Device responsibility

Because the app keeps a plaintext copy on your device for offline editing, protecting that device is your responsibility. We are not responsible for disclosure, modification, or deletion of note content that results from device compromise (for example jailbreaking, rooting, installing untrusted software, or granting other apps access to your device storage).

We strongly recommend using a device passcode, enabling biometric locks, and keeping your OS and apps up to date.

stay safe ✦

4.6 When we may be required to disclose

We will not disclose your notes to third parties except: (a) as required by law (for example a lawful court order); (b) to comply with a valid legal process; or (c) to protect rights or safety where legally permitted. In such cases we will disclose only what is required and will notify you unless legally prohibited.

4.7 How to remove your data

You can delete notes or close your account in the app. After deletion we remove data from active systems promptly; encrypted backups that may contain deleted data will be retained for the 30-day backup window described above and then purged according to our provider practices.

4.8 Data exports

You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, including notes, thankfulness entries, and prayer lists that are currently active in your account.

Deleted notes are not included in exports, even if they exist in backups, as backups are retained solely for disaster recovery and are not accessible for export purposes.

To request your data, email us at contact@gracejournal.co. We aim to respond within 20 working days.
